Flying to Portugal
The closest airport is Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport in Oporto, located 120kms to the north of Coimbra. Portela International Airport in Lisbon is located 200kms to the south of Coimbra.
From the Airport to Coimbra – Public Transportation
From Oporto to Coimbra
The journey from the airport to the railway station (called Porto-Campanhã) which has direct rail connections to Coimbra can be done by taxi for around 20€ and takes around 30 minutes. A less expensive way to reach the Porto-Campanhã railway station is to use the Metro, Violet (E) Line, which has a terminal at the airport. The trips between the airport and the railway station take about 32 minutes (Z4 ticket).
The train journey to Coimbra takes about 1h if you take either the Alfa Pendular train or Intercidades. There are many trains running regularly from Porto to Coimbra. Info about times and tickets is available at https://www.cp.pt/ (CP – Comboios de Portugal).
From Lisbon to Coimbra
If arriving to Lisbon by plane, the best way to come to Coimbra is by train from Lisboa-Oriente railway station. To get to the train station, you can take a taxi, which takes about 10 minutes, but there are less expensive ways to get there, by bus, for example (lines 5 and 44), or by Metro, (Violet Line) to Oriente station.
The train journey to Coimbra takes about 1h30 if you take the Alfa Pendular train and 2h if you take the Intercidades train. Info about train times and tickets is available at https://www.cp.pt/ (CP – Comboios de Portugal).
From the Airport to Coimbra – Coimbra Airport Shuttle
There is a Coimbra Airport Shuttle that operates a door-to-door shared transfer between Centro of Portugal and both Lisbon and Oporto airports. The Coimbra Airport Shuttle service offers numerous daily shuttles going to or departing from the airports.

How to reach IPN, on October 18ᵗʰ:
There are some bus itineraries that can assure the travel from the city centre to IPN: 34, 34T and 5F. The bus stop that is nearer from the city centre for this itinerary is “Arcos do Jardim”. The nearest stops to IPN are either “Quinta das Flores” or “Parque Vale das Flores” (both located in Av. Dr Mendes Silva). From there, IPN is less than 10 minutes walking distance.
